The Local Police of Arrecife is monitoring uncivil acts related to the deposit of materials and debris on public roads. As part of this work, recently, in a neighborhood of the capital of Lanzarote, agents of the Citizen Attention Operational Group (GOAC) witnessed a "new situation of incivility and non-compliance" with the ordinances by citizens who were carrying out reforms in homes in the capital.
The Local Police was able to identify a person who was unloading several white sacks next to the garbage containers. In the course of the action, it was discovered that these sacks were full of construction materials, such as plastic pipes and cement waste, adding up to a total of nine sacks in the area, according to the proceedings carried out.
The author stated that he was unaware of the prohibition, however, he was informed that he would be proposed for sanction for violating current regulations regarding the dumping of debris in unauthorized areas.
The mayor of Arrecife, and direct head of the Local Police, Yonathan de León, has remarked that "this incident reflects that some citizens violate the regulations, failing to comply with the ordinances and marring the coexistence and cleanliness of the city."
The sanctions they face have three categories: minor infractions, with fines ranging from a simple warning to 3,005.06 euros. In the case of serious infractions, with fines ranging between 3,005.06 and 30,050.60 euros. Finally, very serious infractions, which correspond to a sanction from 30,050.60 to 60,101.21 euros.
The City Council asks for citizen collaboration
For the mayor, "the permanent collaboration of citizens in the preservation of the environment and the maintenance of cleanliness in our streets is necessary. The Local Police of Arrecife will continue to act against offenders for not respecting the established regulations."
Yonathan de León makes a citizen appeal "so that any uncivil behavior that negatively affects our environment is brought to the attention of the Local Police. To communicate any suspicious activity or infraction, citizens are urged to contact us through the number 928 811 317."
For his part, the Councilor for Cleaning, Jacobo Lemes, has stated that the regulations are clear. "We cannot be depositing garbage, debris, belongings, etc. anywhere. Any uncivil action is punishable," he said, highlighting that a great effort is being made to keep the city clean and that "these uncivil behaviors harm us all."
