In January of this year, officials from the UCRIF (Unit Against Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Forgery) of Mallorca, together with the Central Brigade of Document Forgery of the General Commissariat of Immigration and Documentation, proceeded to dismantle an organization in the Balearic Island, headed by a Brazilian citizen who was allegedly dedicated to forging Portuguese identity documents, to deliver them to different Brazilian citizens throughout the Spanish geography in order to use said documentation to justify residence and work in Spain as Portuguese citizens and therefore benefit from the European Union resident regime.

As a result of said police action, indications were found of the presence, both in the town of Maspalomas on the island of Gran Canaria and in Arrecife de Lanzarote, of several of those involved in the lucrative criminal business set up around the forgery of Portuguese identity documents, with the Provincial Immigration Brigade of Las Palmas proceeding to carry out procedures with the Portuguese Authorities in coordination with the Local Foreign Groups of the Police Stations of the aforementioned capitals.

As a result of the procedures carried out, the agents, after arduous efforts, were able to detect in Arrecife the presence of several of those charged in the investigated events, with the Foreign Group of the aforementioned town proceeding to locate and arrest three Brazilian citizens, Uelinghton D.J., 27 years old, Saulo G.R., 38 years old, and Linsmar S.D.S., 25 years old, also carrying out an entry and search in one of the homes of the detainees, where a very varied documentation and instruments related to the ongoing investigation could be found.

In the town of Maspalomas and by officials attached to said Police Station together with agents of the UCRIF (Unit Against Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Forgery) of the aforementioned Provincial Immigration Brigade of Las Palmas, two of those charged were located, proceeding to the arrest of the Brazilian citizen Marcelo D.S.R., 27 years old, and to taking a statement as an accused of his sentimental partner, the Brazilian citizen Lidia S.D.S., 23 years old.

The detainees, together with the proceedings instructed, were brought to the disposal of the judicial parties of Arrecife and San Bartolomé de Tirajana, all in relation to the Preliminary Proceedings followed by the Investigating Court of Palma de Mallorca that understood the case.

Efforts continue to be made to locate and arrest all those Brazilian citizens who would have acquired false Portuguese documentation, in order to carry out procedures before the Spanish administration to benefit from the residence and work regime of community citizens.
