The Association of Bodies of the Penitentiary Institutions Administration (Acaip) has denounced an attack by an inmate of the Tahíche prison on three officials that occurred this Saturday. According to the union, "the protocol" for action against inmates of "special dangerousness" was "not activated". In addition, it warns again of the "lack of surveillance personnel" suffered by the prison, which "causes serious security problems".
According to Acaip, the events took place at around 8:00 p.m. this Saturday, when an inmate considered "very dangerous, from Las Palmas and with numerous serious altercations", broke "a broomstick" and threatened "the officials" after arguing with another prisoner.
"Given the inmate's aggressiveness, an attempt is made to calm him down, at which point he begins to kick and punch the officials, having to reduce him and transfer him to the isolation module," says Acaip, from where they state that, as a result of these events, three workers needed medical assistance in the center's infirmary with injuries of "various consideration".
In addition, they point out that later, in the search of the premises, it was discovered that another inmate had a "prison skewer" in his possession, so he was also "transferred to the isolation module".
"It is not the first time that he has engaged in violent acts"
According to Acaip, "the protocol by which officials have to be notified when an inmate of special dangerousness for having engaged in violent acts is discharged from the penitentiary center, as is the case of the aggressor, was not activated." "It is not the first time that this inmate has engaged in violent acts in the center, being the protagonist of numerous fights with other inmates, as well as the destruction of part of the material available to the inmates," says the union.
Finally, Acaip once again warns of "the lack of surveillance personnel" they suffer in the Tahíche prison, "which causes serious security problems for the prison staff, even calling into question some of the workers' rights".
