A young 25-year-old was arrested at the Lanzarote airport when he was trying to introduce a kilo of cocaine "with a high degree of purity" into the island. The events occurred last Sunday, although the National Police has not reported the incident until this Friday.

The operation, named "Punta", was carried out by the Narcotics Group of the Arrecife Local Police Station, which in the course of the investigation "managed to detect said shipment of narcotic substance by air".

The detainee, a native of the Dominican Republic and with "various police records", arrived on the island on a flight from the Madrid-Bajaras airport. At the time of his arrest, he had 77 packets of cocaine inside his body. This method of introducing drugs is known as "mule".

After processing the corresponding police proceedings, the detainee was brought to justice, and his imprisonment was ordered.
