Mulero Detained by the National Police

The National Police have arrested a 58-year-old man at Lanzarote airport as the alleged perpetrator of a drug trafficking crime. The man, originally from Guinea Bissau and with no police record, arrived on the island on an early morning flight from Gran Canaria and aroused the suspicion of police officers, who were able to verify by means of radiological tests that he was carrying what could be cocaine inside his body.

As a matter of routine, specialized agents of the National Police carry out periodic checks on hot flights (flights used as a habitual route by mules who try to introduce drugs) upon arrival at the César Manrique airport.

In one of them, from Gran Canaria, the investigators identified a 58-year-old man who aroused their suspicions. The police investigations made it possible to verify that he was transporting cocaine hidden inside his digestive system, specifically, 100 capsules that finally yielded a weight of 1,180 grams.

The traveler was finally arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health and placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, who ordered his immediate imprisonment.

This is the eleventh mule arrested by agents of the National Police at the César Manrique airport in Lanzarote.
