The Local Police of Arrecife arrested a young drug addict who allegedly used a syringe to intimidate a woman at an ATM and also forced her to withdraw 500 euros from her checking account.
According to police sources, the events occurred at an ATM located on Avenida de La Marina in the capital of Lanzarote, in the vicinity of the old Parador de Turismo.
The victim, who was inside the ATM, was surprised by the presence of the man, who threatened to stick the needle of the syringe into her if she did not withdraw the amount of money he requested.
After the woman complied with the man's demands, he snatched the money from her hands and fled the scene. However, when he was 500 meters from the ATM, he was intercepted by a citizen of South American origin who had come to the aid of the robbed woman, the sources added.
Officers of the Local Police of Arrecife proceeded to arrest the alleged perpetrator of the events, who was later placed at the disposal of the National Police to, together with the pertinent proceedings instructed, be placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
