A driver collided with a Civil Guard vehicle in the early hours of Thursday to Friday, after fleeing when other officers signaled him to stop. The chase began on the LZ-20 towards Arrecife and ended in the municipality of Tías, where there was another checkpoint that he also tried to evade, causing the accident.

The officer who was on the road and gave him signals to stop was hit by the vehicle and had to be taken to the Hospital, with a dislocated shoulder. As for the driver, he tested positive for alcohol and drugs and after being arrested, on Friday morning he was brought to justice and released on charges of assault against authority, damages and crimes against road safety, including reckless driving.

The events began at around 2:30 in the morning, when a patrol carrying out citizen security prevention duties was driving along the LZ-20 road and observed a vehicle driving recklessly and zigzagging. At that moment they signaled him to stop in a safe area, but he continued driving until he finally stopped near the Arrecife barracks, but in the middle of the road.

The officers again told him to move to a safe area, but then the driver accelerated and continued driving towards Playa Honda. During the chase, according to the report sent to the Court, the car collided laterally with several walls and beacons on the road and was about to overturn. In addition, for a stretch he drove in the opposite direction, invading the other lane and forcing drivers to brake or move to the shoulder to avoid a collision.

Finally, when arriving at the Mácher roundabout there was another Civil Guard vehicle parked and the officer who was on the road gave him indications to stop. However, according to the report, he ignored it again and the officer had to move aside to avoid being run over, although he ended up being hit on the side. In addition, the driver crashed into the vehicle, in which there was another civil guard, who was not injured.

Even at that moment, according to the complaint, the driver continued to resist leaving the vehicle, so the officers who had been chasing him had to pull him out. He had injuries to his face, arms and legs, but when the ambulances arrived he refused to be taken to the hospital.

Then he was arrested and taken to the Civil Guard facilities, until in the morning he was brought to justice, being released on charges.
