The National Police have arrested a 22-year-old woman, with no police record, and a 36-year-old man, of Colombian nationality and with a police record, as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking crime. Each of them was carrying a package with 437 and 470 grams of cocaine respectively hidden inside their clothes and were located upon arrival on the island on a flight from Madrid.
The events unfolded when National Police agents who were carrying out prevention work at the Lanzarote airport observed a man and a woman who, upon noticing the police presence, showed "an evasive attitude". The couple had just disembarked on the island from a flight from Madrid.
Both the man and the woman were required by the agents to identify themselves, and a security pat-down was carried out, in which two packages of 437 and 470 grams of cocaine were seized, which they were hiding inside their clothes and attached to their bodies. The agents also seized their mobile phones.
Both the woman and the man were finally arrested as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking crime. After the corresponding police report was prepared, the detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
