A 65-year-old woman has died and three people have been injured after their vehicle overturned in the Montañas del Fuego area, in the Timanfaya National Park. The tragic event occurred at 1:25 p.m.
The Coordinating Center for Emergencies (Cecoes) 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands received an alert at that time reporting that a vehicle had left the road and overturned. The notice also stated that several people had been injured in the accident and one of them had been trapped inside the car.
112 immediately activated the necessary emergency resources, as did the firefighters who went to the scene to try to free one of the injured. When the health personnel of the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) arrived at the scene in three ambulances, one of them a medical ambulance, they assisted the 65-year-old woman who initially presented with severe traumatic brain injury, according to Cecoes.
The paramedics transferred this woman in a medical ambulance to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, where she unfortunately died upon arrival. According to reports, the woman went into cardiorespiratory arrest in the ambulance and the paramedics had to perform advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, which were unsuccessful given the severity of her injuries.
In addition, they assisted another man, 75 years of age, who presented with trauma to his upper limb of a less serious nature. He was also transferred in a basic life support ambulance along with a doctor from the Yaiza Health Center to the Molina Orosa Hospital.
In this tragic accident, a 68-year-old woman was also injured with minor contusions, who was transferred to the aforementioned hospital. The other injured person was a 69-year-old man who presented with minor contusions and was also evacuated to the hospital.
A nurse from the Yaiza Health Center, as well as Local Police, Civil Guard and Civil Protection, also went to the scene.
