The Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero Short Story Contest, which in its eleventh edition is once again starring the Tourist Centers, has already received its first stories.

The deadline to participate in the contest will be open until August 31. Until that day, those interested can send their stories to the email [email protected], with a maximum length of 100 words, including the title if it has one.

This time, participants must tell their own or imagined experience that occurred in some corner of the Tourist Centers that for them is full of magic. Each author may send a maximum of five stories, which may be signed with a pseudonym, although they must always indicate a name and a contact telephone number.

The stories will be read in the "Reading on the Radio" space of Radio Lanzarote (90.7), and published in La Voz de Lanzarote. Both the publication and the reading will be subject to the space and time availability of both media.

The decision of the contest, which will be made public in the second half of September, will be made by a jury made up of journalists from Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero and La Voz de Lanzarote, who will choose three winning stories and seven finalists.

The winner will receive a prize of a weekend for two people with accommodation and breakfast at the Hotel Natura Palace, a 4-star plus establishment. The second prize will be a dinner for two people at the Castillo de San José and the third prize one of the unusual experiences for two people from the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo. All prizes are for adults.

Slave of the crater

A voice told me:

—Take off your shoes! Feel the warmth of this land under your feet. Go all the way up and perceive the strength of nature in your skin, its constant formation in your retinas, the beauty in your soul and the fire of love in your heart.

I, without further ado, obeyed. An hour later, having returned full of inexplicable sensations, she said again:

—Was it worth it? I'm tired and old. I've climbed barefoot thousands of times and I know how you feel.

The animal kept looking at me. Could the camel be as irrational as I thought?

Echoes

She was being carved on the staircase that would lead future visitors to the interior of Los Jameos del Agua. That day they announced that he would come to see the work. It is then that a newly arrived stone, excited by the news, asks: What is César like?

The master stonemason replies: "Don't worry. You will meet him and you will also be able to see him looking with his gaze for the complicity of all of you with the place that each one has assigned in his imagination."

And, she adds: "Later, in the silence of the night you will feel how for many years that pass his spirit will never abandon us."

We don't have dinner tonight

What I am going to tell you happened exactly as I will relate it, although it could well have been a dream, because after so long the memory of what happened has faded among the years that have passed like leaves of a new autumn dragged by the wind of the impassive. New ones will sprout, which will be similar but not the same. Now, every time I look at that branch of the past I don't know if what I see is real or just the intention of returning to the Jameos, because many times I prefer not to remember. In my own way, this makes me feel better…

Evocation

I went down a narrow throat-vagina, towards the bowels of mother earth.

Suddenly, I found myself welcomed into her warm womb. Her mineral juices nourished me; and floating in an amniotic magma I was gestated.

Between terrible convulsions and deafening screams of pain I was born.

I came to light followed by torrents of viscous blood in bright red; finally the placenta was expelled leaving the cavernous matrix empty.

I took my first breath of air and made an effort to open my eyes...

-Anna! She's coming to.

-What a bump!
