The 'V Elisa Betancort Delgado Drawing and Painting Contest', organized by the Social and Cultural Association for Women Mararía in collaboration with Cultura Arrecife, directed by the councilor responsible for this Area in the City Council of the capital of Lanzarote, Abigail González, revealed this Friday its winning works at the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz.
The first prize went to the acrylic on canvas entitled 'Still Life Silence. Ana Orantes' with which its author, Damián Rodríguez, pays tribute to the woman whose courage led to the modification of an entire Penal Code, expanding, among other advances, the concept of violence against women and including psychological violence as such.
The second prize of the contest, with which Mararía evokes and recognizes the artistic and social legacy of the Lanzarote artist Elisa Betancort Delgado, closely linked to said Association and an example of involvement in feminism, went to 'The Invisible Limit', a painting in which its author, David Molina, uses a mixed technique.
'Nebulae', a work by Laura Cerro based on a mixed technique with graphite pencil, received the third prize in an event that included speeches by, among others, the Councilor for Social Welfare of the Arrecife City Council, Maite Corujo, and the president of Mararía, Nieves Rosa Hernández, who congratulated and thanked both the winners and the rest of the participants for their participation.
Guided tour and round table
Awarded with 800, 500 and 300 euros respectively, the three winning works together with the remaining entries will remain on display at the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz where on Friday, February 21, a guided tour will be given by the curator of the exhibition, the writer and illustrator Lana Corujo, starting at 6:00 p.m.
A day earlier, on Thursday, February 20, a round table will also take place at the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz in Arrecife on the figure of Elisa Betancort Delgado, which will be attended by competing authors in this contest reserved for emerging artists and the curator herself, among other participants.
'Still Life Silence. Ana Orantes' will also illustrate the poster announcing the sixth edition of the contest open to artistic expressions that show how women and men face the situation of gender inequality in society, with attitudes and behaviors based on respect, equality, freedom and autonomy, co-responsibility and the firm rejection of violence against women.
