Timplefonías Concert

The Santo Domingo Convent hosted this Friday the concert "Timplefonías", a musical project by three young artists from Lanzarote, the timple players Alexis Lemes, José Vicente Pérez and the guitarist Adrián Niz.

The audience was pleasantly surprised with the work of these three musicians, with whom they were able to discover the many other facets offered by the timple. With a variety of sounds through fusions with different styles, where the timple, together with the guitar, takes on greater prominence, without neglecting the Canarian root, where it has always had and will have an indisputable space.

Alexis, José Vicente and Adrián chose a very avant-garde repertoire, taking a tour of some Spanish-speaking countries such as Chile or Argentina, among others. In the room you could hear songs that are part of the universal songbook such as Alfonsina y el Mar, Fina Estampa or El pájaro Campana, which were also joined by other hits by great musicians such as John Lennon or Eric Clapton. They also did not forget the music with Canarian roots, with traditional pieces such as seguidillas, isas, folías. One of the greats of the timple, the always loved and remembered José Antonio Ramos, was very present on the night, and in his honor they performed a medley including Chipude, La Retamilla and Los Cuatro Gigantes.

Tribute to Juan Brito

Before the concert, a tribute was paid to the timple player born in San Bartolomé, Juan Brito, co-founder of the Ajei Folklore Group. In the Timple House-Museum a photograph of Brito was placed in the room dedicated to timple players. A very emotional moment that was attended by his relatives, the Councilor for Culture of the Teguise City Council, Nori Machín, and the Commissioner of the House-Museum, Benito Cabrera.

Later they moved to the Convent to culminate the recognition of Juan Brito Martín and enjoy the concert dedicated to his memory.
