‘Mararía la de Femés’, the scenic co-production promoted by the Pérez Galdós Theater and the production company Unahoramenos last year, has been preselected with three nominations for the 27th edition of the Max Awards for the Performing Arts of Spain 2024, whose award ceremony will take place in the Adán Martín Auditorium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on July 1st.
The Canarian production, directed by Mario Vega, is included in the list that includes a total of 186 shows out of the 522 registered for the competition. The three pre-selections of ‘Mararía la de Femés’ have been designated in the categories of 'Best Sound Space for the work of Belén Álvarez (Lajalada)', 'Best Actress and Best Actor' for the performances of Marta Viera and Mingo Ruano, respectively.
The Canarian theatrical production ‘Mararía la de Femes’ was part of the performing arts project called ‘Second Reading’ and its premiere coincided with the celebration of the half-century of life that the edition of the iconic novel ‘Mararía’, by Rafael Arozarena, was celebrating last year with the premiere of its own production inspired by the aforementioned title published 50 years ago by the remembered writer from Tenerife.
The theatrical version of ‘Mararía la de Femés’ by the Canarian stage director Mario Vega was presented at the Pérez Galdós Theater, inspired by an adaptation carried out by Professor Yeray Rodríguez. As will be remembered, the theatrical version of ‘Mararía la de Femés’ featured the actors Marta Viera and Mingo Ruano, as well as the participation of the singer LAJALADA (Belén Álvarez Doreste), who performed live the original musical repertoire of the production whose lyrics were also written by Yeray Rodríguez. In the play there is a constant dialogue between the poetic nature of the text, the music and the audiovisual support.
The selection committee for this first phase of the Max has been made up of five territorial juries (two for Madrid, Catalonia and two for Communities), which in turn have been designated by the Organizing Committee. After this first selection phase, a court made up of the five presidents of the territorial juries and five personalities from the Performing Arts will be in charge of deciding the finalists of the 20 categories that compete in the 27th edition of the 'Max Awards for the Performing Arts of Spain'.
Awards organized by SGAE, through the SGAE Foundation and with the sponsorship of the Cabildo de Tenerife, the purpose of these awards (the Goya of the Performing Arts) is to stimulate and reward the talent of theater and dance professionals in our country, in addition to promoting the shows of the season. This 27th edition also has the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, through INAEM and Grupo Eulen. The ceremony will be broadcast on La 2 of Televisión Española, through the Channel
International RTVE and via streaming by RTVE Play.
