Last Tuesday, a very special day for Tahíche, the small hermitage hosted neighbors and parishioners from other towns in Lanzarote to pay tribute to the Patron Saint Santiago Apóstol. At 7:00 p.m. the celebration of the Eucharist began, presided over by the parish priest of Teguise, Juan Manuel Molina, assisted by Norberto Medina, parish priest of Haría and La Graciosa.
The songs for the celebration were enlivened by the 'Parish Choir' directed by Fina, also with the participation of the assembly. For Juan Manuel Molina, this was his first mass on the feast of Santiago Apóstol. He, a native of Gáldar in Gran Canaria, a place where they also have Santiago Apóstol as their patron saint, despite the distance from his municipality, felt very supported by all the parishioners.
Once the Eucharist was over, the procession began, touring the streets of the town with the images of the Patron Saint Santiago Apóstol and Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Tahiche was also a fishing village and many families joined together to collect money and thus be able to have the Patron Saint of Sailors. The procession was led by the Teguise Music Band 'Teguiband', directed by Professor Tito González, in which the images were carried on the shoulders by the neighbors followed by the celebrating priests, Oswaldo Betancort, Olivia Duque, councilors and neighbors. During the tour and as tradition dictates, the "vivas to the Patron Saint Santiago and the Virgen del Carmen" were heard. Afterwards, upon arriving at the hermitage, the 'Teguiband' band performed a processional march composition that was greatly applauded by the public present.
Once the religious day was over, the public moved to the Neighborhood Association to enjoy a gala, which on this occasion featured the opening of the ballet formed by young people from the town and directed by Sergio Niz. The group of dancers staged a choreography based on traditions, giving way to the comedian Petite Lorena, who flooded with her good humor, showing off her gift of the word, provoking the public, making them spend some very pleasant minutes. Some spectators who in a few minutes empathized with her and showed her their affection through applause, during a performance in which the smile was guaranteed.
