The Lanzarote Young Readers Congress brought together this Wednesday at the "El Salinero" Theater 362 primary and secondary school students from 11 schools on the island, who were able to meet the writers whose works they have read during this school year. The Canary Islands Young Readers Congress, which has been held for the first time with an island character, is an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Universities of the Government of the Canary Islands that "over seven meetings on the islands will bring together more than three thousand students from the Archipelago with the 29 writers participating in the project this year", according to the Canarian Executive.

During the event, the students took to the stage to represent their vision of the works chosen by the Lanzarote schools, which have been "The boy who didn't know how to play football", by Ernesto Rodríguez Abad, "The adventures of dust mote" and "The Mystery of the Necklace", by Lola Suárez, and "Let me tell you a story and Labyrinth", by Miguel Guelmí.

"Learning to read also means being able to go further: getting to know the characters, understanding their decisions, getting involved in the story as if it were our own", stressed the general director of Planning, Innovation and Educational Promotion of the Ministry of Education and Universities of the Government of the Canary Islands, Rafael Bailón, who participated in the event. "For this reason, the performances and works that they will present to the authors today are so important: they are proof that during this course they have been able to unravel the books and, in addition to being this proof, they are an opportunity to share their vision of the texts with the writers", he added.

Rafael Bailón also highlighted the reception that the Congress has had in Lanzarote, where it is being held for the first time this year, since in previous years some Lanzarote schools participated in the Gran Canaria Congress, when the event had a provincial character. "By expanding the initiative with island meetings, this year more than three thousand students have participated in the congresses, while last year there were only 1,100 students", said the director, who congratulated the educational communities for their "involvement and effort" to make the development of the initiative possible.
