The Juan Brito Foundation is pleased to announce its nomination in the Cultural Collective category of the prestigious Canary Islands Tradition and Folklore Awards. This recognition represents significant support for the work the institution has carried out for years in favor of the research, conservation, and dissemination of the valuable cultural heritage of the Canary Islands.
The awards ceremony in its various categories will take place on March 21, 2026 at the Paraninfo of the University of La Laguna.
A firm commitment to Canarian identity
Created in honor of the renowned Canarian artisan, ethnographer, and cultural advocate Juan Brito, the Foundation has embraced his legacy as its guide and purpose. Its mission is to act as an active custodian of the traditions that shape the archipelago's identity.
Through educational programs, ethnographic exhibitions, and projects aimed at recovering ancestral trades and knowledge, and integrating the cultural legacy of migrant communities, the Juan Brito Foundation has established itself as a benchmark in the intergenerational transmission of popular culture. Its work goes beyond conservation; it seeks to revitalize practices and knowledge that, without intervention, could be lost over time.
“This nomination is not only an honor for the Foundation, but a well-deserved recognition for all the people and communities who collaborate with us to keep the essence of our land alive,” states **Pedro Brito Paz**, president of the entity. “Cultural heritage is not a static memory, but a dynamic legacy that we must protect and share. That is the spirit of Juan Brito and the driving force of our Foundation.”
