The César Manrique Foundation (FCM) will screen “In the volcano. Manrique: Jameos del Agua / Casa Tahíche” next Thursday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the José Saramago room (La Plazuela, Arrecife). This is a video essay directed, written and edited by Orencio Boix, which was co-produced by the Center for Art and Nature of Huesca (CDAM) and the FCM within the framework of the celebration of the centenary of the artist's birth, the foundation reports.
After the screening of the documentary, the director of the same and Juan Guardiola, former director of the CDAM, will hold a conversation to contextualize this work, which allows to delve, through a poetic and reflective approach, into "the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote and in two of the most important works of César Manrique: Jameos del Agua and the house of Taro de Tahíche", they advance.
In Boix's words: "The film builds a resonance box with space for poetic criticism and the dissemination of that constellation of island signs that César Manrique raised in Lanzarote," he says.
"An integral baedeker with which he produced a symbolically new island, and of which Jameos del Agua and his house of Taro de Tahíche constitute two of his clearest and earliest examples”, he confirms.
Likewise, the director of “In the volcano” highlights that "Manrique's playful sense and his joy of living" germinated in Lanzarote in "spatial proposals capable of influencing the environmental awareness of an entire territory and its inhabitants against urban speculation and unmeasured tourism", he acknowledges.
