The exhibition Photojournalism. A Collective Vision of Lanzarote, which has been on display at La Casa Amarilla since October 16, has already accumulated a total of 6,616 visitors in the more than three months it has been open to the public.

Precisely, the excellent reception the exhibition has had from the local public and tourists visiting the capital has led the organization to decide to extend its exhibition until the end of next March, as the initial date set for its closure was this Saturday, January 31.

Photojournalism. A Collective Vision of Lanzarote is organized by the Veintinueve Trece collective and the Lanzarote Island Council Data Center, and it aims to be a tribute to the press photography professionals who have documented the island's reality over the past decades.

The exhibition showcases the work of up to 23 graphic press professionals and addresses the major themes that have shaped Lanzarote's recent history: fishing, agriculture and livestock farming, tourism, politics, crime, social movements, health and education, immigration, art and culture, sports, and traditional festivals.

The exhibition features works by Adriel Perdomo, Alberto Hugo Rojas, Carlos Sotillo, Dory Hernández, Eileen Luna, Fañi García, Felipe de la Cruz, Fran Fajardo, Javi Fuentes, Javier Mayordomo, Javier Sáenz “Javito”, Jesús Porteros, José Luis Carrasco, José Luis Rojas, José María del Corral, Juan Mateos, Kepa Herrero, Luisa Stinga, Miguel Hernández, Noemí Acuña, Pepe Vera, Sergio Betancort, and Jesús “Suso” Betancort.

More than 40,000 digitized photographs

This exhibition has been possible thanks to the photographers themselves and the island's media outlets, who have over the past years loaned their graphic and documentary collections to the Cabildo de Lanzarote so they could be digitized and become part of the Lanzarote Digital Memory, a department of the Cabildo that is part of the corporation's Data Center and is headed by councilwoman Ascensión Toledo.

Although there are photos from many media outlets, such as Diario de Lanzarote or El Reportero Gráfico, the bulk of the exhibition is made up of archives from others like La Voz de Lanzarote and Isla Informativa. All that material could be digitized thanks to a grant awarded by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Spain, which allowed for the conversion of more than 40,000 paper images to electronic format.

In turn, it should be noted that the exhibition is part of the program of the X Lanzarote Photography and Visual Arts Meeting, whose main events took place between November 10 and 15.
