A packed Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture hosted this Tuesday the presentation of the book "Pasos de jable y volcán. Thirty years of feminist journey in Lanzarote", by the writer and journalist Myriam Ybot González. This work celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of the Mararía Social and Cultural Association for women, an entity that has been a fundamental pillar in the fight for equality on the island.

The Area Councilor, Ascensión Toledo, stressed during the presentation that "this book is not only a memory of the achievements, but a tribute to the constant and courageous work of Mararía, which has inspired generations in Lanzarote and beyond."

For her part, María José Alonso, coordinator of the Publications Service, stressed that "this work is an essential testimony that makes visible the social and cultural advances that, to a large extent, owe their existence to the collective effort led by associations such as Mararía."

Nieves Rosa, president of the Mararía Association, said excitedly that "these thirty years have been a path of struggle, learning and transformation for the society of Lanzarote. The book faithfully reflects the impact we have had on the island."

The author of the book, Myriam Ybot, explained that "Pasos de jable y volcán is not only a historical review, but an invitation to reflect on how much we have advanced and how much we have left to go in terms of equality. This work is dedicated to all the women who have been part of Mararía and to those who continue to fight day by day."

The event included a performance by the group "Voces al viento", and concluded with a cocktail for the attendees, in an atmosphere of celebration and recognition of the milestones of the association and its impact on the society of Lanzarote.

Pasos de jable y volcán, published by the Publications Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, rigorously analyzes the evolution of the island society from the late twentieth century to 2024. The text combines research and historical documentation with a critical reflection on the legislative, administrative and community advances in terms of equality, all in the context of the incessant work of Mararía to transform and empower the female population of the island.
