The National Television Festival of Spain lands in Lanzarote

This week the National Television Festival of Spain, FesTVal, lands in Lanzarote. Between July 4 and 6, two television documentaries will be presented worldwide in Lanzarote and several meetings will be held with great television professionals from series, programs, news and producers, among others.

The week also includes many other cultural options. Music, theater, cinema and the inauguration of several exhibitions. Among them, one with photographs by Chema Madoz, the first exhibition of the National Photography Award in the Canary Islands.

 


MUSIC

 

  • Thirtieth anniversary of the “Mararía” Association. Anniversary gala

The social and cultural Association Mararía celebrates its thirtieth anniversary with a spectacular gala that will feature the participation of the Parranda Los Buches and the Los Campesinos Folk Group.

In addition, the event will include a poetic recital by the writer and poet Elsa López, accompanied by the voice of the singer Ayla Rodríguez and the guitar of Tomás Perera.

Since its inception in 1994, Mararía has played a fundamental role in transmitting and raising awareness in society about values ​​of equality and in the prevention of gender violence.

  • Proximity Concerts

The cultural initiative Proximity Concerts in Arrecife proposes a concert in which the accordionist Iñaki Alberdi and the narrator Usoa Ibarra will join their instruments to bring culture closer to the La Vega neighborhood.

  • Timple meeting at the Campesino

The cultural centers offer this Saturday at the Casa-Museo del Campesino a concert by the timplistas Alexis Lemes, José Vicente Pérez and the Toñín Corujo Quartet.

The musicians will mix pieces of Traditional Canarian Folklore with jazz, funky, folk and other global influences.

THEATER

 

  • Constant Rain. We are Theater

The theater company Somos Teatro presents the show Constant Rain that tells the story of Rodo and Dani, two policemen who are friends, but are quite different.

What they have in common is that they face serious problems. Rodo struggles silently against alcoholism, while Dani cheats on his wife with prostitutes.

Their friendship and career will be tested by a poorly resolved case. The mistake they made haunts them.

When: Saturday, July 6 at 8:30 p.m.

LITERATURE

 

  • XIV edition of the Radio Lanzarote Short Story Contest Summer 2024

July 1 marked the start of the XIV edition of the Radio Lanzarote Short Story contest. This time the contest pays tribute to the writer Miguel de Unamuno one hundred years after his exile to Fuerteventura.

Those who want to participate must send a micro-story that does not exceed 100 words.

The stories will have the same beginning. One of the first phrases of Niebla that says: “In this a dog did not pass through the street, but a graceful young woman, and after her eyes went, as if magnetized and without realizing it, Augusto. ..” From this beginning, participants must imagine what happens next.

The winner of the first prize will get a dinner for two at the Jameos del Agua restaurant, while the second prize is one of the unusual experiences for two people in Montañas del Fuego. Finally, the third prize is a brunch in the Cactus Garden. All prizes are for adults.


 

CINEMA

 

  • Buñuel Cinema. Evil does not exist

The Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén presents the film “Evil Does Not Exist” by the Japanese film director Ryūsuke Hamaguchi.

It is an ecological fable set in a rural area of ​​Japan that makes us reflect on our relationship with the natural world. The film addresses issues such as mass tourism, global warming or water scarcity or the fashion among the inhabitants of large cities of taking country retreats to combat stress.

  • FesTVal. Manta rays, creatures from another planet

Filmmaker and marine biologist Rick Rosenthal, an Emmy winner, and his team of scientists reveal the true nature of manta rays. These majestic creatures of almost nine meters wingspan have the largest brain of all fish, and show a behavior closer to that of large marine mammals. Their courtship and mating displays also give us clues about their social sophistication. Some scientists suggest that they might even be self-aware.

  • FesTVal. Nazi extermination forest

The so-called war crimes of the Arnsberg forest in Germany occurred in March 1945 and cast a dark shadow over post-war Germany: the murderers did not appear before justice until decades later, the sentences were lenient and the acquittals caused scandal.

This Canal Historia documentary, which also premieres in Lanzarote, explores what happened in that forest and at that time, reproduces the course of events with the help of recreations and archive material, allows witnesses to speak for the first time and analyzes the reasons why the murder of 208 men, women and children went almost unpunished.

Within the television festival, El Almacén will host the meeting ‘Acting in series’, which will feature the presence of renowned actors such as Raúl Peña, Alejo Sauras and Gorka Aguinagalde, who will address their careers, comment on professional anecdotes and participate in a subsequent discussion with the public present.

  • FesTVal. The job of presenting.

Within the television festival, El Almacén will host the meeting “The job of presenting” on Friday. There will be Olga Lambea (Canal 24h de RTVE), Jalis de la Serna ('Apatrullando', 'Enviado especial', Atresmedia), Ana García Lozano ('Esta es mi historia', 'El programa de Ana') and Xavier Deltell ('Crónicas marcianas', 'Masterchef Celebrity').

  • FesTVal. Telling the news on Television: challenges in the new audiovisual ecosystem

EXHIBITIONS

 

  • Sea of ​​stone. Paco Curbelo

El Almacén presents an exhibition of small-format works by the sculptor Paco Curbelo by the curator Estefanía Camejo.

The artist, specialized in monumental sculpture interventions in public space, shows us in this exhibition a more intimate, lesser-known and unpublished facet, through his graphic work and small-format sculptures.

  • Party. Cristóbal Tabares

El Almacén also inaugurates an exhibition on the work of the artist Cristóbal Tabares curated by Semíramis González.

Tabares rescues festivities from the past and present to portray the party as a social event and to show us some of the characters who anticipated an emancipated and free way of life.

  • Back to the land. José Luis Luzardo

The exhibition A vueltas con la tierra by the artist José Luis Luzardo was inaugurated at the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz in April, but this Friday there is an excellent opportunity to come and see it, since from 6:00 p.m. a meeting will be held in conversation format between the artist and the curator of the exhibition.

Both in his paintings and in his sculptural objects, Luzardo shows his concern for the health of the planet, gives his support to dissident identities or shares his anguish at the growing loneliness of the individual within the system.

  • Chema Madoz. The nature of things

The International Museum of Contemporary Art of the Castillo de San José presents “The Nature of Things”, the first individual exhibition by Chema Madoz in the Canary Islands.

Chema Madoz is one of the most prestigious photographers on the national scene and has been awarded numerous prizes such as the National Photography Prize. The exhibition includes a wide selection of black and white photographs, in which Madoz creates poetic metaphors from everyday objects.

When: From Wednesday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m.
