The Board of Directors of the Tourist Centers held this Friday has approved the free visit to the Casa de los Volcanes and, therefore, to Jameos del Agua, for all residents of Lanzarote for six months from the date of the inauguration of the geological research center, which is scheduled to take place between February 28 and March 5.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and of the Board of Directors of the Tourist Centers, María Dolores Corujo, explained that the measure aims to "continue bringing the Tourist Centers closer to the population of the island, in this case, facilitating access to all the knowledge accumulated after decades of research on volcanology in a completely renovated space, which combines historical elements of the Casa de los Volcanes with the latest technology in the museum field. The new Casa de los Volcanes," she concluded, "is a jewel that adds to the extensive catalog of Jameos del Agua," she concluded.

The CEO of the Entity, Benjamín Perdomo, is convinced that the new Casa de los Volcanes "will cause a sensation and add value to the visiting experience of Jameos del Agua".

When the measure approved unanimously by the Board of Directors of the Tourist Centers comes into effect, "the people of Lanzarote will be able to enjoy a space that has state-of-the-art technological elements and, at the same time, preserves the flavor, essence and informative character that has characterized the scientific space throughout its long history".

Thus, after a total investment of close to 4 million euros, the visitor will be able to admire the instruments used in the Geodynamics Laboratory of Lanzarote or the always striking Hall of Mirrors while contemplating projections on LED and touch screens; vinyl, interactive and audiovisual panels, and enjoy an augmented reality photocall that offers infinite surprises.

The new Casa de los Volcanes is articulated around three thematic axes. "The first will show the geological formation process of the volcanic tube of La Corona and the transformation carried out in Jameos del Agua by the artist César Manrique, which will also have a specific room. The visitor will also be able to learn some of the secrets hidden by the Túnel de la Atlántida", explain from the Centers.

The second axis will be focused on the work developed in the Casa de los Volcanes and on the contents of Geoparque Lanzarote – Archipiélago Chinijo. ‘Planetary Analogues’ will show, finally, the mission of the European Space Agency and the result of the practical exercises that it has carried out in Lanzarote as a testing ground for space technologies.
