Cuban guitarist Alexander Álvarez will offer a show this Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. at the Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture. This performance is part of the Noon Project, which is promoted by the chamber music concert promoting entity Vector de Ideas. It also falls within the cultural initiative programmed by the Arrecife City Council through the Department of Culture.

The return to the capital of Lanzarote of the Noon Project is completed with four other concerts - all with free admission, like tomorrow, the 2nd - to be held also from 12:00 p.m. at the Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture on the remaining Saturdays of September. On the 9th, the Garachico Chamber Choir will perform; on the 16th, it will be the turn of the KonCon group, made up of students from the International Conservatory of The Hague; on the 23rd, the violin will be the protagonist with the Salas Duo; and on the 30th, the Mokoi Duo from Paraguay will perform.

‘II Modern Times Festival’

Also noteworthy in the cultural program prepared by the Arrecife City Council for this month is the II Modern Times Festival, promoted by the Nino Díaz Foundation, which consists of the film Sunrise by director F.W. Murnau, with a soundtrack performed live by the pianist Manuel Bonino and the screening of the introductory documentary to the film Eruption of Teneguía. With free admission, it will be at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8 at the Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture.

And another project dedicated especially to film lovers included in the aforementioned program is the one called Destiladera. Lanzarote Revealed 2023, promoted by the Tenique Cultural Association and consisting of the screening of old films about island emigration. It will take place on Thursday the 21st at the Tinasoria Sociocultural Center and on Friday the 22nd at the La Vega Sociocultural Center. Starting at 7:00 p.m. and with free admission, both screenings will also include a discussion and enyesque.

Gender violence

The Arrecife cultural program for this month also includes a talk against gender violence by the Head of the Unit Against Violence against Women of the Directorate of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, Margara Bello Santana, at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20 at the Tinasoria Sociocultural Center.

It also includes the photographic exhibition Tattoos, by inmates of the Tahíche Penitentiary Center, which will be on display from September 4 to 24 at the Tinasoria Sociocultural Center from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., as well as the presentation of the literary magazine Tahíche Opina also made by members of said group and the presentation of the works they have carried out in the workshops taught by the association of family members and friends of prisoners Derecho y Justicia.

Creative sewing

Other workshops included in the program are the two Creative Sewing workshops, aimed at people over 16 years of age and taught free of charge by Nubecitas de Ilusión. The first, Decorate your bag, will take place on the 25th and 26th. The second, Decorate your towel, on the 27th and 28th. In both cases, the places are sold out, but interested people can sign up on a waiting list by calling 928 17 30 17.

Also, the Guanapay Chess Club will offer a chess workshop every Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Tinasoria Sociocultural Center, where a day of role-playing and board games will take place on September 23 from 5:00 p.m. On the other hand, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. there will be Latin dance classes at the Argana Baja Sociocultural Center, which will also host the theater performance De Fábula by the Aspercan Association at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29.
