Music with roots, the sea as a companion, and the moon illuminating an unforgettable night were the perfect ingredients for Costa Teguise to experience last Thursday an authentic evening with "Sabor a Canarias", organized by the Teguise City Council on the occasion of the celebration of Canary Islands Day.

The chosen setting could not have been more emblematic or evocative; the Amphitheater of the Costa Teguise promenade, with Las Cucharas beach as a backdrop and the sound of the Atlantic accompanying every chord. Long before the concert began, the venue was completely full of residents and tourists who did not want to miss an event full of Canarian identity, tradition, and feeling.

The night began with the performance of the Acatife de Teguise Popular Music Group, a musical collective that has been defending and disseminating popular Canarian music with its own unique style for more than 43 years. Its 30 members, vocally directed by Professor Elías Roldán and musically accompanied by Alejandro Machín and Juan Ramón González, offered a musical journey full of interpretive quality and emotion.

The audience enjoyed singing along to well-known songs from their repertoire such as; Soy del Atlante, Las Bogotanas, Isa Enterregada, Folias del Alma, El Diablo de Timanfaya. Identidad, Sorondongo al Labrador and a heartfelt medley of Boleros, songs that are now part of Acatife's musical heritage and the popular sentiment of many generations.

After a standing ovation, it was the turn of the Musical Group "Calicanto", formed by 25 members who, for this very special occasion, were supported by seven great musician friends of the collective, achieving a brilliant and fresh staging.

Musically directed by Professor Vanessa Rijo and presided over by Raquel Aparicio, "Calicanto" conquered from the first moment with a dynamic, cheerful, and sensitive repertoire, performing songs such as; Viajera, Me nace del Corazón, Folias,  Soy de Aquí, Ayer, La Candela and Isa Parrandera, continuously arousing the applause and complicity of the audience.

The connection between both groups and the attendees was total. Many sang along to the lyrics and others, caught up in the festive atmosphere and the island rhythm, couldn't help but get up to dance by the sea. The magic of the surroundings, the gentle Atlantic breeze, and the proximity of Las Cucharas beach made even more special a night where Canarian identity could be felt in every corner.

The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, along with the councilor for Culture, Andoni Machín, and several members of the municipal corporation, were present enjoying this musical encounter led by two cultural groups deeply linked to La Villa de Teguise and the defense of our roots.

Without a doubt, it was a concert that captivated the audience from beginning to end. A night where popular Canarian music once again proved that it is more alive than ever, capable of uniting generations, touching hearts, and building bridges between those who visit us and those who feel this land as part of their soul.

Costa Teguise experienced a unique evening with the taste of saltpeter, tradition, and Canarian pride, under the complicit gaze of the moon and with the Atlantic as an eternal witness.
