The project "Island Christmas", promoted by the Culture Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote in collaboration with the cultural groups of the island, is taking our music and dances to the seven municipalities of Lanzarote. Last Friday at 8:00 p.m., Timbayba and Acatife performed on the stage installed in the José Ramírez Cerdá park and next to the Music Kiosk in Arrecife.
The concert began with the performance of the great Timbayba family from the municipality of Tinajo, who returned to the stage after two years with great enthusiasm. The group is directed by Chalo Martín and offered the most representative of traditional Canarian folklore with its songs and dances. The themes they chose in the first place were folías, seguidillas and saltonas followed by a siote palmero, isa de los palos, mazurca ending with an isa parrandera. A performance as usual in which Timbayba gave everything and the numerous public rewarded them with their applause.
Secondly, the Acatife Popular Music Group performed. A staff of 25 men under the direction of José Antonio Elías Roldán. On the occasion of the upcoming Christmas holidays, he chose a very varied musical repertoire including some newly created themes such as Timple del Mar. They were interweaving different themes and Christmas carols of their own creation such as Nació en Canarias, Navidad en el Mar to which was also joined a round song entitled Serenata para María ending with Seguidillas a la Navidad of last creation giving for finalized its performance with the applause of the public.
The chairs were few for the people who wanted to go and enjoy a night of Canarian music.
