The Second Section of the Provincial Court will try the three defendants accused of stabbing a young man in the vicinity of the Casa de la Juventud de Arrecife in 2019 on June 15 and 16, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. For two of them, the Prosecutor's Office requests a sentence of 10 years less one day in prison for attempted homicide, while for the third it requests a sentence of 12 years less one day in prison, also charging him with a crime of threats.

Specifically, the events took place at approximately 7:05 p.m. on November 7, 2019, in the back of the Casa de la Juventud. There, the three defendants "started a strong argument" with the victim, a young Moroccan man who was then 19 years old, as transpired at the time. In the course of it, one of them, who responds to the initials J.M.G.G., gave him "a strong kick in the chest" and "punched him several times in his body", as stated in the indictment.

Then, another of the defendants, J.E.E.S. "grabbed by the neck" a person "who was running to help his friend" with "the intention of intimidating" and, carrying "a large knife", uttered the following expression to him. "And now what? What?", causing in him "the fear that he could do him some harm."

Next, the Prosecutor's Office maintains that J.E.E.S and the third defendant, who responds to the initials R.C.V. approached the victim "each carrying a large knife", the first of them inflicting "a stab wound in the back" and the second of them "slitting his belly". Finally, the defendant J.M.G.G. inflicted "several stab wounds on his right arm and on the index finger of his right hand."

As a result, the young man suffered numerous injuries and was hospitalized, requiring "two surgical interventions on the day of admission" and "specialized surgical medical treatment consisting of in-hospital management of the injuries" until November 22. In addition, five days later he had to be readmitted to the hospital "due to complications", remaining hospitalized for another six days.

In total, his wounds took 96 days to heal, of which 73 prevented him from carrying out his usual activities and occupations and 23 were of hospitalization. In addition, he required "three surgical interventions", two of them "of an urgent nature." He also suffered sequelae, consisting of "a slight aesthetic damage in attention to the set of scars", a "neurotic disorder derived from mild post-traumatic stress and abdominal and chest pain."

Compensation of more than 19,000 euros

The Public Prosecutor's Office considers that the facts constitute a crime of attempted homicide and another of threats. For the first of the crimes, it requests for the three defendants a sentence of 10 years less one day in prison, as well as the prohibition of approaching within 500 meters of the victim, his home, place of work and any other place he frequents and of communicating with her for 15 years.

J.E.E.S is only accused of the crime of threats, asking for him another two years in prison, as well as the prohibition of approaching the stabbed young man or communicating with her for another five years.

Likewise, it is claimed that the three defendants compensate the victim with a total of 19,380.30 euros for the injuries suffered and the sequelae suffered. To this figure, it is requested that "the amount determined in execution of the judgment referring to the costs of health care, lost profits and various expenses be added, provided that they are accredited in accordance with the Law."
