The judge of the number two court of instruction of Arrecife has ordered the provisional imprisonment, incommunicado and without bail for the two leaders of the international criminal gang who are being investigated as alleged perpetrators of money laundering crimes committed within the scope of a criminal organization, as reported by the communication office of the TSJC.

Gerry Hutch, known as The Monk, is among those arrested, but the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands has not reported on his judicial situation. Throughout this Friday, the magistrate has taken a statement from the nine people as alleged members of the gang and has released the other seven arrested on bail with charges and precautionary measures. .

In addition, it has been reported that the investigation remains open and the proceedings are declared secret.

For now, the Civil Guard has carried out ten searches after the investigation to dismantle this criminal gang has been carried out for more than two years, according to RTÉ. Likewise, "the operation has focused on the movements of large sums of money and the purchase of a series of properties in Spain".

According to public television, The Monk had been traveling regularly between Spain and Ireland since he was released last year after the Special Criminal Court declared him innocent of the murder of David Byrne.

In addition, "Gerry Hutch had a home in Lanzarote, where the close relative also arrested has been living for approximately two years", the media reports.
