The Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has sentenced a man to two years in prison accused of a crime of inciting hatred by posting numerous xenophobic messages on social networks.
The messages were directed against the Muslim community and against immigrants, and also made comments of extreme right-wing ideology, with the aim of inciting violent measures to be taken against these groups.
The defendant was to be tried this Wednesday, but the oral hearing did not take place because the defendant reached a settlement agreement, acknowledging the facts and accepting the sentence. In addition to the two years in prison, he has also been sentenced to a fine of 540 euros, special disqualification for the right to passive suffrage during the term of the sentence, payment of costs and the obligation to remove the content posted on social networks.
