The Las Palmas Court has sentenced Francisco V.T.C. to five and a half years in prison and the payment of fines and compensation and 31 days of community service for crashing into two police vehicles with a stolen car in a chase through the streets of Arrecife. All of this happened after trying to rob an inhabited house in Costa Teguise, on May 18, 2020, according to the newspaper La Provincia.

The condemned was a repeat offender of some of the crimes he was accused of, and accepted the agreement between the defense and the prosecutor, who requested in his indictment almost 12 years in prison for the events.

Francisco V.T.V used that day a vehicle hired by a client of a car rental company who had lost the keys. The condemned took advantage of the circumstance to go with that vehicle, an Opel Corsa, to Costa Teguise, where he entered the house through the window although he was surprised by the owner. The condemned fled the scene without taking any object from the house.

It was in Arrecife when the National Police, who verified that the vehicle in question had a report for theft, urged Francisco V.T.V to stop, although the condemned chose to turn off the lights and flee at high speed through Arrecife. However, he failed to mislead the agents and rammed one of the police vehicles, thus managing to continue his attempt to escape although he was still being chased by another patrol car, which was also rammed.

These collisions caused the car to lose its two front wheels, although this did not discourage the detainee and he tried to head to Arrecife, although he ended up losing control of the vehicle and crashing into a wall. Once the vehicle was disabled, he tried to hide among bushes, although he was later located by agents of the National Police.

However, when he was already arrested, he tried to injure one of the agents with a knife, although the bulletproof vest he was wearing saved his life, suffering only damages assessed at 60 euros. He also punched other agents, hitting them until he was reduced.

The flight and the movie chase caused the now condemned to be accused of four crimes: one of theft of use of a motor vehicle with false keys, for which he will pay 31 days of community service; one of robbery in an inhabited house in the degree of attempt, for which he has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison; one of reckless driving for which he has been sentenced to a daily fine of six euros and six years without a license; and finally, a continued crime of attack for which he has been sentenced to the loss of his driver's license and three years in prison.
