The Prosecutor's Office is asking for eight years in prison for a defendant accused of trying to kill his roommate in Arrecife, who will be tried next Monday in Lanzarote by the Sixth Section of the Provincial Court.

According to the indictment, the events took place in the early morning of December 6, 2019 at the home they both shared. There, the defendant had an argument with his roommate, "without the cause having been sufficiently proven."

The Public Prosecutor's Office maintains that the accused, who responds to the initials I.A. "repeatedly incited" his roommate "to argue, insulting him repeatedly", finally getting him to "leave the house". However, after that he "followed him" and, when his roommate "was in the doorway", the defendant "stabbed him from behind in the neck", with "a knife about 30 centimeters long and about 4 centimeters wide blade."

Subsequently, according to the Prosecutor's Office, they "struggled" and "at the same time" that the roommate "tried to take the knife away from him", the defendant "attacked him again with the knife twice in the left side and in the left area of the abdomen, at the height of the kidney." "Immediately," the defendant "fled," while his roommate "went up to the house to ask for help."

As a result of the events, the victim presented various injuries, which "are considered by the forensic doctor to be life-threatening." Therefore, he was hospitalized for five days, requiring "specialized medical and/or surgical treatment." Likewise, he was unable to work for another 55 days, thus needing 60 days for his recovery.

In addition, he was left with "as sequelae a neurotic disorder derived from mild post-traumatic stress and a slight aesthetic damage", with several scars in different parts of the body, one of them seven centimeters in the neck.

Compensation of almost 11,000 euros

The Prosecutor's Office considers that the accused, who has been in provisional prison since December 11, 2019, acted "with the intention of ending the life" of his roommate "and that the events constitute a crime of attempted homicide.

In addition to requesting eight years in prison for the defendant, he also asks that he compensate the victim with 3,251.20 euros for the injuries caused and with 7,514 euros for the sequelae that remained.
