Lanzarote registered 360 complaints of gender violence from January to September, 9.7% more than in 2018

In the third quarter of the year, there were 112 complaints of gender violence registered in the Courts of Arrecife, which represents an increase of 3.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The Courts of Arrecife registered a total of 360 complaints of gender violence from January to September 2019, 9.7% more than in the same period last year, according to data from the General Council of the Judiciary published in the Cabildo Data Center.

In the first quarter, there were 108 complaints of gender violence registered in the Courts of Arrecife, which rose to 130 in the second quarter. From July to September, the number of complaints decreased to 122 but, compared to the third quarter of 2018, it increased by 3.3%.

Of the 360 complaints registered in the first nine months of the year, 224 were through police reports with a complaint from the victim, 78 through police reports due to direct police intervention and 58 by injuries. However, there were 123 victims who renounced the process.

Regarding the 122 complaints of gender violence that were registered in the third quarter of 2019 in the Courts of Arrecife and that represent a ratio of 16.7 complaints per 10,000 women, 65 were presented through police reports with a complaint from the victim and 57 by injuries. In this case, there were 49 waivers to the process. 

Of the crimes of gender violence registered in the Courts of Arrecife from July to September of this year, 110 were for injuries and mistreatment, nine for crimes against moral integrity, seven for breaches of sentences and six for breaches of measures. In addition, 10 minor offenses were registered, seven for insults and three for unfair vexation.
