The businessman Juan Francisco Rosa has traveled to Gran Canaria and attended this Thursday as an audience to the third day of the trial against Felipe Fernández Camero, with whom he has maintained ties for decades.
Fernández Camero, who has been Rosa's lawyer for years, is being tried for the money he charged from the Yaiza City Council under the Mayoralty of José Francisco Reyes. In that period in which Camero "advised" the City Council, Rosa received different illegal licenses, which allowed him to build, among other things, the Princesa Yaiza hotel, the Son Bou and the Marina Rubicón marina, which are still pending the execution of the sentence.
In the Yate case, Reyes confessed that he granted these and other permits knowing their illegality, and also admitted to receiving bribes, although he did not give the names of the businessmen.
Both Rosa and Camero were also charged in that case, the first for the alleged payment of bribes and the second as alleged "inducer" of the mayor's criminal conduct. However, the charges were eventually dropped due to lack of evidence to prove their participation.
In the case of Fernández Camero, no trace of that "advice" to Reyes was found, and that is precisely why this new piece that is now being judged was opened, accusing him then of embezzlement, since in that period he charged almost one million euros from the Consistory.
In this trial, Camero sits on the bench together with Reyes and the former secretary, Vicente Bartolomé Fuentes, who also confessed and was convicted in the Yate case for granting illegal licenses to Rosa and other businessmen. This Thursday, Juan Francisco Rosa wanted to be present at the hearing against them, sitting among the public.
The businessman did not attend the first two sessions held on Tuesday and Wednesday in Arrecife, but he did attend this Thursday's session, which was the first to be held in Gran Canaria.
In this day it was planned that Camero would declare as accused, although he has not finally done so, as the declaration of Bartolomé Fuentes was extended.
Fernández Camero will declare this Friday, when the evidence phase of the trial will be completed. Afterwards, in a final session scheduled for June 27, the defenses, the Prosecutor's Office and the popular accusation will present their final conclusions, and the trial will be ready for sentencing.
