The First Section of the Administrative Litigation Chamber of the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) has sided with a firefighter from the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote who reported the existence of serious irregularities in the selection process of firefighters for said entity.

According to La Provincia, a ruling last September 25 exposes a series of practices that violate equal opportunities among candidates and the quality of public service offered by officers.

One of the most notable points of the ruling is the case of an applicant who, according to the initial assessment, achieved 2.76 points in merits, compared to the actual 0.58 points that would correspond to them after an analysis adjusted to legality. This difference of more than two points justified obtaining a place, leaving out other applicants with better qualifications and specific training.

The lawyer Almudena Viota Mariñas, in charge of the defense in the case, explains that the court detected systematic irregularities that significantly altered the outcome of the process. According to the judicial resolution, courses with no direct relation to the position were assessed, such as technologies for forklifts and cargo transport, which clearly do not correspond to the skills required for firefighters.

Furthermore, the court points out that the duplicated calculation of first aid courses was permitted, unjustifiably valuing the same content several times.
