The Secretary of State for Justice, Antonio Julián Rodríguez, has spoken on Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero to talk about the creation of the Court of First Instance number six of Arrecife. "The Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) asked us for ten new units, but six will be created in the Islands," said Rodríguez during his intervention in the morning show Buenos días, Lanzarote.

Rodríguez has reported that the Ministry of Justice is preparing the decree for the creation of the 70 new judicial units around the country, including the one in Arrecife. "This week we will send it to present it to the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and then to the Council of Ministers," he explained before the microphones.

The Secretary of State attributes the creation of this new court to the insistence of the socialist senator Manuel Fajardo Palarea and the Dean of Arrecife and the judges of the capital of Lanzarote, as well as the approval of the Ministry. "This always goes with a year of distance, the units budgeted in 2023 will be for 2024," he said.

The creation of the Court of First Instance number six will mean that the reinforcement measures on the island will be eliminated and that judicial procedures will be expedited, addressing the problems arising from the double insularity in Lanzarote.

During his speech, the Secretary of State for Justice pointed out the obstacles to overcome during these four years. First, the strike of lawyers of the Administration of Justice and currently, the strike of Justice officials. In addition, he took the opportunity to respond emphatically that "August will continue to be disabled for the administration of justice and in September we will work to catch up with all pending issues."

Also, the electoral advance has prevented three laws that were expected to be approved in Parliament from going forward: Organizational, Procedural and Digital Efficiency. "These are European milestones, which the European Union makes us comply with. They were going to generate a modernization, going from the justice of the 19th century to one of the 21st century," he said.

He also recalled one of the biggest clashes between Núñez Feijóo's and the socialists. "The PP has wanted not to respect the Constitution and not to renew the CGPJ. During the next legislature, "which will continue Pedro Sánchez and the PSOE, we will continue trying to find a solution."

"Delighted to talk to you and especially to address Lanzarote. Arrecife and Lanzarote for me, in the hard times of Basque politics, was my refuge," Rodríguez confessed to the listeners. Basque by birth, the Secretary of State took refuge on the island of Lanzarote in the times of ETA. "I am sure that I will return to those summers in Costa Teguise in search of the freedom that remained in those Basques who have come to the Canary Islands at that time."
