The former senior official of the company Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) Enrique Hernández Martín has admitted to bribery in the Jable case. The defendant in an alleged bribery case has admitted to having "gifted" the former mayor of Arrecife, between 2001 and 2007, Isabel Déniz, in exchange for the award of the construction of the Argana Alta sports hall.

This is the third defendant in this piece of corruption to confess to the commission of the criminal acts. Before him, the two senior officials of Urbaser Manuel de Andrés Martínez and Santiago Alonso Herrero confessed to having committed a crime of bribery by bribing to obtain the Arrecife garbage and cleaning contract. Both stated last week their willingness to cooperate with Justice, and paid a total of 220,000 euros as a fine.

The Prosecutor asks for Enrique Hernández four years in prison

In his 2016 indictment, the Prosecutor's Office requested for Enrique Hernández Martín four years in prison, special disqualification from exercising passive suffrage and a fine of 111,744.08 euros, as well as disqualification from employment or public office for ten years.

Hernández Martín has acknowledged that he paid Isabel Déniz a trip to Morocco, valued at 16,674.11 euros, for eight nights in December 2005. Seven members of her family traveled with her. The Public Prosecutor's Office pointed out at the time that this "gift" was "part of the payment" to the former mayor of Arrecife for having awarded the company the works of the pavilion.

"For the purposes of repairing the damage caused by said conduct", the defense lawyer of the former FCC leader informed Section Two of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas, in charge of judging the case, that his client had deposited the aforementioned amount in the judicial account.

In addition, during the first session of the trial, which was suspended this Monday due to the illness of Isabel Déniz, the Public Prosecutor's Office withdrew the accusation against the other former senior FCC official accused Enrique Astorga.

It should be noted that the Public Prosecutor's Office highlighted that FCC not only paid for the former mayor's trip to Marrakech but would have contracted the services of Gamma Install, another of the companies involved in the plot. It commissioned this company to prepare the projects for the Arrecife sports hall for which it paid 136,999 euros.
