Next Monday, April 17, the hearing of Operation Jable, the last piece to be judged within the framework of the Unión case, will begin in the Second Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas. This case dates back to the beginning of the 21st century and is based on the alleged rigging of the public tender by which the then Arrecife City Council awarded Urbaser the contract for garbage collection and the construction of the Argana pavilion.

The trial for this plot has been delayed almost eight years since the investigation concluded. There are 15 defendants, including the former mayor of Arrecife Isabel Déniz, the former secretary Felipe Fernández Camero, the historical leader of the Independent Party of Lanzarote (PIL), Dimas Martín or the former secretary of the PSOE in Arrecife, Miguel Ángel Leal.

In addition to representatives of the companies Urbaser, FCC and Gamma Instal and the partners of Isabel Déniz and Dimas Martín, as participants for lucrative purposes.

The trial, divided into eight sessions, will be held entirely in Gran Canaria.

The Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) has confirmed to La Voz that it will begin on April 17, as planned. In addition, it will continue on April 18, 24, 25 and 26, 22, 29 and 31 May.

The defendants will face charges of bribery, embezzlement, document forgery, abuse of power, disclosure of secrets, fraud and activities prohibited to officials.

Likewise, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office attributed to Dimas Martín, Isabel Déniz, Felipe Fernández Camero and Rafael Arrocha a presumed crime of illicit association, considering that they would have formed an organized society to commit crimes.

One of the accused in the framework of Operation Jable, Matías Curbelo, right-hand man of Dimas Martín, died in March 2018, at 73 years old without being judged. Curbelo acknowledged the facts and collaborated with the investigation.
