In addition to housing and road investments, one of the issues that concerns and was raised by the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, to Pablo Rodríguez, Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, in the meeting held last Monday at the Government headquarters, is the evident delay in the commercialization of the port of Playa Blanca as a destination for the arrival of medium-sized or boutique cruises, which currently leaves the first tourist center of Lanzarote out of the market. Well, the mayor announces that "the councilor guarantees us that Promotur Turismo Canarias is already in charge of channeling the commercialization strategy of our port for cruise tourism".

Óscar Noda, who argues that 20 medium-sized or boutique cruise calls in Playa Blanca represent one million euros for Yaiza, according to the port's competitiveness study in relation to the luxury cruise market and its socio-economic impact on the municipal tourist destination, commissioned by Puertos Canarios at the request of the City Council, adds that "the commitment conveyed to us by the councilor is that the cruises will arrive in Playa Blanca, if not this year, then in 2026, through the efforts of Promotur".

In any case, Yaiza also asks the Cabildo of Lanzarote to "demonstrate its willingness with concrete actions of the Society for the Promotion of Foreign Trade of Lanzarote. Here, all institutions must pitch in, because simply declaring good intentions is not enough".

Regarding the intervention of Promotur, the mayor maintains that "this public commercial company knows perfectly the technical conditions of the port and its capacity, and of course, knows the virtues and the tourist potential of Lanzarote. I remember that the docking of cruises in Playa Blanca benefits Yaiza, but also the entire island as a tourist destination".

Promotur is competent in activities related to the study, promotion, development, dissemination and commercialization of the various tourist products and services of the Canary Islands and the promotion of the tourist offer of the Archipelago. "The managing director of Promotur is José Juan Lorenzo from Lanzarote, so apart from his professionalism, we hope he has a special sensitivity for this issue that directly affects the Island".

Improvement works and services in the port

Óscar Noda also raised with Councilor Pablo Rodríguez concerns related to the service of the cafeteria of the new port, which is not in operation, and pending actions in signage and improvement of pedestrian access and connectivity with the promenade.

"Pablo Rodríguez confirms that the complementary improvement works are about to be published for bidding on the public sector contracting platform and that the Government will also reinforce the port officers service for all of the Canary Islands, including Playa Blanca. We will have two more officers with functions similar to those of the port police", informs Óscar Noda.
