The Cabildo's Tourism Sustainability Plan obtains more than eight million from the recovery funds

Some initiatives included are the development of trail networks, the creation of a nautical station, or the recovery of gastronomic heritage in the teleclubs of Lanzarote

The Council of Ministers has authorized this Wednesday the proposal for the territorial distribution of 478 million euros corresponding to the third extraordinary call of the program of Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destination 2023, fully financed with the Next Generation EU funds of the Recovery Plan, of which 41.3 million will correspond to the Canary Islands.

Of the different plans presented from the Canary archipelago, the one presented by the Cabildo of Lanzarote is the one that has obtained the highest amount, 8.1 million euros. The Cabildo's Plan includes 35 projects in different municipalities, focused on environmental sustainability and digitalization in the tourism sector. According to the president of the Cabildo, the actions to be carried out will be divided into four main axes: the green transition, the improvement of energy efficiency, the digital transition and competitiveness.

Among the most outstanding projects in which the Cabildo will invest these funds, the construction of facilities for refueling, actions for the rehabilitation and conditioning of areas of the island's coastline, the renovation of public lighting, the creation of networks of trails stand out.

Likewise, initiatives such as the implementation of tourism intelligence platforms, plans to improve accessibility and eliminate architectural barriers, the creation of a nautical station in the Islote de Fermina or the recovery of gastronomic heritage in the teleclubs of Lanzarote, among others, are contemplated.
