The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Consell de Menorca have signed an agreement, within the framework of Fitur 2023, with the aim of celebrating joint actions in terms of sustainability in the tourism field.
During this inaugural day of the fair, the island president, María Dolores Corujo, and her counterpart in the Consell, Susana Mora, have established the bases for this future collaboration, also coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the declaration of both destinations as Biosphere Reserves.
Improvements in society, culture and sustainable education
The president and tourism advisor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, explained that, given the similarity of the conditions of both islands and their common goal of improving tourism quality, "we intend to reformulate sustainability policies to reinforce the commitment and actions to be deployed in the territories."
This commitment contemplates "the empowerment of new actors", as detailed by Corujo, such as social, cultural or educational.
The collaboration, therefore, will be aimed at having technical, economic and personal means during the year 2023 for the implementation of actions of this nature, highlighting among these the group 'Zero Plastic'; the MICRO Congress (dedicated to the problem of plastics) or the joint work between the Observatori Socioambiental de Menorca (OBSAM) and the Data Center of Lanzarote, among others.
