National passenger traffic to Lanzarote recorded its best month of June since records began, with a total of 60,561 travelers arriving from various parts of Spain, according to a report by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), collected by the Lanzarote Data Center, which excludes people arriving from Canary Islands airports.
The average for previous years was around 40,000 and 45,000 people in the sixth month, so in 2022 the increase has been about 20,000 more travelers. This difference is even more notable when compared to the data from 2021, when only 35,992 passengers arrived, 68.3% less, since travel had numerous restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition, it is also important to mention that the arrival of passengers at the beginning of the summer high season has increased by 16.6% in just one month, since in May 51,939 people from national airports landed on the island, thus marking the best data of all of 2022.
By communities, the bulk of travelers came from Madrid, a total of 25,446 passengers, followed by Catalonia with 10,120 and Andalusia with 6,509, and very closely the Basque Country with 6,255. 5,558 came from Galicia, 4,468 from the Valencian Community, 1,646 from Asturias and 559 from Aragon.
The accumulated figure for 2022 is 282,797, 186% better than in 2021, when only 98,892 travelers arrived between January and June.
Inter-island traffic also increases
With regard to inter-island traffic, a total of 100,670 passengers were registered in the month of June, a figure that has also become the best number of all of 2022. Furthermore, if compared with the figure for 2021, this is 23.58% better, since 81,460 travelers arrived last year.
Specifically, the connection with Gran Canaria has had a total of 64,454 passengers, that of Tenerife with 35,112, that of La Palma 821 and, finally, that of Fuerteventura with 283.
It is important to mention that the numbers are on the rise in all routes compared to 2021, with the connection with La Palma increasing the most, up to 27,350%, since last year there were no flights with the island.
Finally, as for the accumulated figure for 2022, this is estimated at 513,161 passengers from January to June, compared to 312,646 last year, 64.1% more.
