A total of 272,094 tourists arrived in Lanzarote in October, 5% more than arrived in the same month of 2019. Therefore, the tourist recovery of the island is consolidated. This is the second month of 2022 in which pre-pandemic figures have been exceeded, since in August there was an increase of 1.5% compared to the same month of 2019.
By nationalities, the greatest growth is observed in Italian tourism, followed by national and French tourism. The largest decreases have occurred in German tourism, followed by Irish tourism, according to data from the Canary Islands Statistics Service (ISTAC).
As usual, almost half came from the United Kingdom, from where 133,343 arrivals were recorded. The number of British increased by 4% compared to the same pre-pandemic period.
Next is the national market, excluding inter-island trips, from which 32,071 tourists came, 33% more travelers. This confirms the trend of recent months in which national tourism has surpassed the German market, which had traditionally occupied second place in number of arrivals, and the Irish market.
Both foreign markets have suffered considerable declines. This October 21,531 Germans arrived, which is 37% less arrivals compared to the Germans who visited the island in the same period of 2019.
The fall of the German market, very cautious in the face of economic crises, places it in fourth place in number of arrivals. Again, it is confirmed that the Irish market surpasses the German market in Lanzarote. And that the number of Irish who arrived this October, 24,128 people, is 13% below those who arrived in October 2019.
In the case of France, the opposite phenomenon occurs, since a large increase in the number of arrivals from the Gallic country has been recorded. There have been 18,690, 28.5% more compared to the same pre-pandemic period. If this trend continues, the French market could also surpass the German market in the coming months.
The largest percentage increase has occurred in Italian tourism, which, with 9,968 arrivals in October 2022, has more than doubled the arrivals from the transalpine country in October 2019. Arrivals from the Nordic countries were 8,465, 9% less than those recorded in October 2019.
Netherlands, with 7,860 arrivals and Belgium, with 4,064, maintain figures very similar to those of the same period of 2019.
