Lanzarote is among the most sought-after locations by national tourists for the month of July, according to a study carried out by the hotel and flight search engine Jetcost.es.
Specifically, the volcanic island ranks number twelve in the ranking prepared by Jetcost.es, which analyzes the results of accommodation searches between July 1 and 31, so the data is based on real searches and not on surveys.
And the number of tourists from national airports had already skyrocketed in May in Lanzarote, with 51,939 travelers compared to the 34,499 registered before the pandemic, so it is expected that the trend will continue in the summer months, when passenger traffic increases.
From the search engine, they report that accommodation searches have tripled this year, compared to 2021. Almost three out of four users (74%) have searched for national destinations compared to 26% who have chosen international destinations, while in terms of preferences, Spaniards continue to opt for sunny and beachy places, with 71% of the total.
Meanwhile, the top positions in the ranking are occupied by Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands), Benidorm (Valencian Community) and Tenerife (Canary Islands). In addition, the city of Las Palmas also manages to sneak into 18th place as one of the most sought-after destinations by national tourists.
“It seems that the economic crisis is affecting the choice of destination and they prefer to look for national cities, and preferably with a beach, with 71% of Spanish tourists looking for sun, sand and sea compared to inland destinations”, explained Ignazio Ciarmoli, Marketing Director of Jetcost.
“The Canary Islands have been one of the most sought-after autonomous communities with three destinations among the 35 preferred for spending these vacation days. Tenerife stands out especially, which has been the third most sought-after city in Spain”.
