The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, Pablo Rodríguez (CC), insisted this Tuesday in the plenary session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands that the services of the control towers of all the airports of the Canary archipelago must be public.

Claim that Pablo Rodríguez has made after the deputy of the Nationalist group (CC) Oswaldo Betancort asked the Minister what measures he planned to adopt to avoid the strikes of air traffic controllers of the company that operates at the César Manrique airport, in Lanzarote.

The deputy indicated that since February of this year there have been many delays at that airport, through which about 3 million passengers pass a year, of which around 2,500,000 are foreigners, and added that the damage is tourist but also for those who live on that island and in La Graciosa and have to travel to Gran Canaria for health reasons.

Therefore, the deputy has asked the Minister to intercede with the Spanish government to solve the problem.

Pablo Rodríguez responded that he has sent a letter to the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, who took office this Tuesday, to explain the situation and ask his department to mediate between the company and the workers.

This situation, Pablo Rodríguez stressed, serves to reiterate the harmful effects of the privatization of airport control services, which are only public in the cases of Gando (Gran Canaria), Tenerife North and Tenerife South.
