The Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL) has announced that the draft with the Cabildo is already in a very advanced stage, which will allow speeding up the granting of visas and permits for the construction sector of the island, with the aim of unlocking essential housing projects to meet the growing housing demand.
Its president, Beatriz Salazar, made this statement after a meeting at the headquarters of the Island Corporation, with the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Bethencourt; the Minister of the Presidency, Miguel Ángel Jiménez; the urban planning lawyer of the CEL, Jesús Villodre, the dean of the Official College of Architects of Lanzarote, Aberto Lasso, and the technician of the Confederation, Vicente Stinga.
A final meeting is expected in the first weeks of April, in which the bases of the agreement and its different applications will be definitively agreed upon, which will crystallize in the model of public-private collaboration that the CEL defends.
Beatriz Salazar explains that "the proposed solution consists of signing an agreement that allows entrusting the processing of these visas, reducing the times." "Lanzarote needs more agile and efficient processes that allow responding quickly to the demand for housing," she confirms.
The president warns that delays in granting permits and visas mean that when these are granted, production costs have already increased, in addition to slowing down job creation in construction. "Our proposal facilitates a more agile technical review, maintaining all legal and safety guarantees," says Beatriz Salazar.
"It is essential that administrations and professional associations work together to guarantee the right to housing and promote employment in the sector," she concluded.
This initiative is in line with the strategy that the Government of the Canary Islands has initiated, by carrying out the processing of a decree law of administrative simplification with the aim of reducing the deadlines for the processing of building permits. It is expected to be approved in the next sessions of the Parliament of the Canary Islands.
