The Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canary Islands Housing Institute, directed by Antonio Ortega, has published a new call for aid to promote the construction of protected housing developments for rent, with a budget of 2,000,000 euros.

Likewise, the call itself establishes the possibility of increasing the amount of the available budget credit as a result of a generation, expansion or incorporation of credit prior to the issuance of the concession resolution.

Through this item, the ICAVI intends to subsidize protected housing developments, whether of new construction, or from the rehabilitation of homes or buildings. Likewise, housing developments with ongoing works that are paralyzed and that resume them until their complete completion as protected housing will also be subsidized. In all cases, the finished homes must be used for rent, for use as the habitual and permanent residence of their occupants.

In order to access the aid charged to the call, the rental regime may be for 10 or 25 years and, where appropriate, with an option to purchase. However, the duration of public protection will be 30 years from the date of final qualification.

In the case of protected housing regimes of new construction or from rehabilitation or resumption of works, whose destination is rent, a distinction will be made according to the income of the tenants, on the one hand, in a special regime, when it comes to housing intended for tenants with income from the cohabitation unit that does not exceed 2.5 times the IPREM; and, on the other hand, in a general regime, when the homes are intended for tenants with income from the cohabitation unit that does not exceed 5 times the IPREM. In this sense, said threshold will be 6 times the IPREM when it comes to large families of a special category or people with disabilities.

Individuals or legal entities, private individuals who have registered office in the Canary Islands and are registered, on the date of application for the subsidy, in any of the following codes of the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE-2009) may benefit from this aid: Real estate development, construction of buildings, sale of real estate on own account; or rental of real estate on own account.

Those interested may submit applications in person at the Canary Islands Housing Institute or electronically at the electronic headquarters of the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands from August 20 to September 20. Except in Fuerteventura, where the deadline will end on September 23.
