The Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez, will begin her round of negotiations with the Basque Country, Catalonia, Navarra, Asturias and the Canary Islands after the approval they have expressed to the offer made by the Government in this matter at the last conference of presidents.

In an interview on RNE collected by EFE, she has asked the other communities to reconsider, since if they do not, they will have to give many explanations to their fellow citizens because their refusal is not understood, and she has urged them to multiply their efforts to solve the housing problem.

Rodríguez has insisted that the agreements proposed by the Government have little chance of being rejected, they are good for the autonomies themselves, for the majority of Spaniards and also have social consensus.

She has assured that the refusal of the PP communities was not the same, a division that, she added, was also perceived this Sunday in the Plaza de España in Madrid.

In fact, this morning the Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda will meet with the Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda of the Basque Government, Denis Itxaso, within the framework of the State Housing Agreement 2026-2030.

"I expect little from this PP and from whoever leads it. In important moments, such as the pandemic or inflation, the PP has neither been there nor is it expected to be. The gentleman who came from a moderate position turns out to do nothing but insult, annoy and contribute little," said the head of Housing.

More than 90,000 homes under construction

The minister recalled that they have more than 90,000 homes under construction and that the 184,000 promised will be exceeded.

She stressed that the housing problem is complex and whoever says otherwise is lying and that the Housing Law works, as demonstrated by the data from Catalonia with price controls, which will be joined by Navarra and Galicia, through the City Council of A Coruña.

The minister reiterated the need to move forward with the reform of the Land Law and said that land cannot be given away, that it is necessary to protect the raw material, shield public housing and achieve transparent and public data to know, for example, how rental contracts are closed.

The minister, who stressed that nothing has been built in the last 10 years, has again defended that tourist apartments should be eliminated, as in Madrid, where she assures that there are 15,000 illegal ones. She has reiterated that they must be regulated and that, like any business, they have to pay taxes.

"We have no time to lose," added Rodríguez, who, to overcome the refusal in the Community of Madrid, the PSOE has taken a bill to Congress that will achieve the same thing without the declaration of stressed areas.
