Unemployment rises by 464 people in Lanzarote and reaches the worst figure of the year with 11,384 unemployed

Social Security affiliations in Lanzarote experienced greater growth than in the archipelago as a whole, according to a document from the Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL). Specifically, in February 2022 there were 56,509 affiliates on the island, 12% more than in the same month of 2021, with 50,435 records. For its part, in the Canary Islands the increase was only 7.17%.

Likewise, the report also reflects a very positive evolution in terms of unemployment in Lanzarote, with a drop in the rate of 44.3% in 2022, going from 19,872 unemployed people in February 2021, to 11,077 in the same month of this year. If the data at the regional level is taken into account, this reduction is limited to 27.64%.

"These figures show that companies have managed to create jobs again, although the levels of affiliations that existed in February 2020 have not yet been reached, when the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic began to be felt," says Francisco Martínez, president of the CEL.

From the Confederation they insist on the importance of establishing employment and hiring promotion projects such as "Employability Lanzarote 2022", financed by the Employment Department of the Island Council with FDCAN funds, and executed by the Lanzarote Business Confederation, which aims to subsidize the hiring of unemployed workers.
