The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has approved the Royal Decree regulating the direct granting of subsidies for the promotion of professions related to the maritime sector. The amount of aid authorized amounts to more than one million euros.

The regulation aims to encourage vocations in the maritime sector, which is of great importance to the Spanish economy and for the transport of goods.

In this context, it seeks to give greater dissemination to the existence of these professions for the attraction of early vocations, as well as to promote among students taking the qualifying degrees and master's degrees and, at the same time, to facilitate access to training for those who opt for these professions.

Spanish regulations require the completion of internships on board ships during certain periods to access professional qualifications, in addition to university studies.

Thus, in order to facilitate this embarkation of students, a subsidy of one million euros is provided to the Spanish Shipowners' Association (ANAVE), as the entity that will distribute these funds among the participating shipping companies.

To receive the aid, recipients must sign an agreement with the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy, dependent on the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, which will establish the eligible expenses, their justification system, and the monitoring of the degree of compliance with the acquired commitments.
