The archipelago currently has 148,807 people affiliated with the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers, after registering an increase of 628 people compared to the previous month, 0.42%, and 3,207 compared to the same period last year, 2.2%. In this last year alone, about nine self-employed individuals per day registered.

This growth is above the national average, which was 2.06%, and places the Canary Islands as the sixth autonomous community with the highest percentage growth of self-employed workers in the last year.

The Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed, Manuel Domínguez, pointed out that "the decrease in unemployment in September, the lowest since December 2007, consolidates the improvement in the labor market." He also stated that "reaching a new record of self-employed individuals is not a matter of chance. It is the result of the effort of thousands of entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals and of a strategy by the Government of the Canary Islands aimed at supporting them at all stages: from the start of their activity to their consolidation."

Domínguez insisted that "the policy of support for self-employment must be comprehensive and stable, because it is not enough to facilitate registration: it is also necessary to help maintain activity, improve financing, promote work-life balance, boost hiring, and support businesses in their modernization processes." "We want those who have an idea, a project, or an ongoing business to find an ally in the Administration, with fewer obstacles, more support, and better conditions to generate activity and employment."

Among these measures is the zero fee, aimed at fostering both the start-up and consolidation of the activity of self-employed workers. Added to these actions are the Concilia Program, aimed at facilitating work-life balance, aid for the first hiring of people aged 52 or over through the +Uno 52 program, subsidies to partially subsidize the interest on loans for productive investments, and aid for Temporary Incapacity. Furthermore, the 'Reactívate' program offers support, guidance, and new opportunities to self-employed workers on the islands who are experiencing difficulties.
