According to the 2024 Annual Report prepared by the Faconauto employers' association, the official network of dealerships in the archipelago reached 6,716 workers, which represents an increase of 185 jobs compared to the previous year.

In terms of economic volume, the sector's turnover in the Canary Islands amounted to 2,052 million euros, which represents an increase of 7.5% compared to the 1,909 million registered in 2023.

The arrival of new brands and the technological transformation of the sector is driving the demand for new professional profiles, especially in areas such as electromechanics, omnichannel attention and electric mobility

Dealers are looking to incorporate young talent, also female, with digital skills that reinforce their competitiveness. This need is concentrated in after-sales, a key area for business profitability, where difficulties persist in filling intermediate technical positions.

Despite the positive evolution of employment figures, according to Faconauto, generational change is emerging as one of the major challenges in the short and medium term. "The average age of professionals in the sector continues to increase and new incorporations are not covering the expected rate of rotation."

"The greatest difficulties are concentrated in the technical area, where the lack of qualified young people in advanced mechanics, diagnostics or embedded software is beginning to create bottlenecks," they explain.

The commercial network has also been reinforced with the incorporation of five new dealerships, reaching 72 points of sale and a total of 180 facilities distributed throughout the territory.

At the national level, the official automotive dealership sector closed 2024 with 163,765 direct jobs, which represents the net creation of 2,478 jobs compared to the previous year.

Regarding the commercial network, the number of dealerships has increased from 2,006 to 2,143 points of sale, with a total of 5,358 facilities spread throughout the country.

The expansion of distribution networks and the transformation of the business model are the two drivers of job growth in the sector.

The profile of employment generated by dealerships remains at high quality standards. 97% of current contracts are permanent, well above the average for the economy as a whole, and 90% of employees have specialized training.
