• The first thing is the type of container. In a groupage or shared container, you pay only for the volume your furniture occupies and share space with other shipments: it is the most economical option for small apartments. The exclusive container, on the other hand, is reserved entirely for your move, with a fixed departure date and less cargo handling; it is worthwhile for a full home.
• The second point is the budget. It is advisable to demand it be fixed and in writing, with the volume, type of service, and everything included detailed. A fixed price avoids last-minute charges, the main source of complaints in the sector. And since maritime departures are weekly, booking three or four weeks in advance ensures the date and avoids urgency surcharges, especially in the months of highest demand. Taxation is the third factor, and the great unknown.
• All moves between the mainland and the islands require a DUA (Single Administrative Document). Those who move with a change of residence can benefit from the IGIC and AIEM exemption and be exempt from customs duties on their used belongings, a saving that many do not take advantage of due to lack of knowledge.
